Which electric cars will Europe buy?

Electric cars are more and more popular in Europe. In 2024 one in seven new cars was electric. In Norway almost all new cars are electric.

Now more and more Chinese brands are coming to the European market. The best-known Chinese brand is BYD. Chinese cars are often cheaper than European ones. China produces many good and cheap batteries. The Chinese state gives money to the companies. The EU thinks that this is not fair. That is why there are now higher tariffs on Chinese cars.

Volkswagen is the biggest car maker in Europe. But in China the company sells fewer and fewer cars. By 2030 the company will cut over 30,000 jobs in Germany.

Many people still drive petrol or diesel cars. They are afraid that there are not enough charging stations. But the number of charging stations in Europe is growing fast.
