The opposition wins the election in Sweden.

On 13 September Sweden elected a new parliament with 349 members. The four parties of the opposition won 176 seats. The government and its partners won 173 seats. The difference between the two sides is only three seats.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson handed in his resignation after the election. For four years his government had the support of the Sweden Democrats. This party wants fewer immigrants in the country. In this election it won fewer seats than before.

Now Magdalena Andersson has to form a new government. She leads the Social Democrats, the largest party in parliament. Andersson was already prime minister of Sweden four years ago. She was the first woman prime minister in Sweden.

But the talks on the new government are not easy. The Left Party wants its own ministers in the new government. The Centre Party does not want ministers from the Left Party. The new parliament starts work on 28 September.
