Europe is ageing: who will work?

Europe is the oldest continent in the world. People live longer and longer because medicine is better. But young families have fewer and fewer children. On average, a woman has fewer than two children.

That is why there are more and more pensioners in Europe. Today employees pay the pensions of old people. But the number of employees is getting smaller and smaller. In Germany people will soon go into retirement at 67.

In Germany many workers are missing today. Hospitals and care homes are looking for nurses. That is why Germany is looking for workers from abroad. Many people from the Western Balkans can work there. They only need a work contract.

But for North Macedonia this is a big problem. Many young doctors and nurses are leaving for Germany. So the country also ages even faster than other countries.
