Copper is more expensive than ever.

The price of copper reached a new record. In September 2026 a tonne of copper cost over 14,500 dollars. This is the highest price in history.

Copper is a very important metal for the economy. Electric cables and pipes are made from it. It is found both in phones and in electric cars. The world uses more and more copper every year. Data centres and solar panels need a lot of copper.

But mines cannot produce enough. Many mines are old and produce less. There were problems in the mines in Indonesia and in Congo.

The price is rising also because of the plans of the USA. The USA is planning tariffs on imports of copper. So American companies are buying copper in advance and storing it in warehouses.

In Macedonia copper is extracted from the mine at Bučim near Radoviš. For mines high prices are good news.
